Eagles Bring Back A Familiar Offensive Lineman And Some Other Roster Moves

Eagles Bring Back a Familiar Offensive Lineman, Plus Other Roster Moves

Revisiting an Old Friend

The Philadelphia Eagles have re-signed offensive lineman Sua Opeta, the team announced Tuesday. Opeta, 26, was a member of the Eagles from 2019-21 before spending last season with the Minnesota Vikings.

Opeta started 15 games for the Vikings in 2022, primarily at right guard. He was a key part of an offensive line that helped Minnesota finish 11th in the NFL in rushing and 13th in scoring.

The Eagles are hoping that Opeta can provide some depth and competition to their offensive line. The team lost starting right guard Brandon Brooks to retirement this offseason, and they are still looking for his replacement.

Other Roster Moves

In addition to re-signing Opeta, the Eagles also made a few other roster moves on Tuesday.

  • Signed offensive tackle Kayode Awosika to a one-year contract.
  • Waived defensive tackle Kobe Smith.
  • Placed wide receiver John Hightower on injured reserve.

Awosika, 25, has spent the past three seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers. He started 16 games at right tackle for the Chargers in 2021.

Smith, 26, was signed by the Eagles as a free agent in March. He played in 16 games for the Eagles last season, primarily on special teams.

Hightower, 26, was signed by the Eagles as a free agent in April. He has not played in an NFL game since 2019.
