Dozens of people have been detained in the Ugandan capital Kampala after joining scattered anti-corruption protests in the city. The protests were organized by a group called the "March2Parliament" movement, which is calling for an end to corruption in the Ugandan government.
Museveni Warns Against Protests
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has warned citizens planning anti-corruption protests that they will be met with force. Museveni said that the protests are illegal and that anyone who participates in them will be arrested.
Protesters Demand Speaker's Resignation
Under the hashtag #March2Parliament, demonstrators demanded the resignation of Speaker of Parliament Anita Among along with an end to corruption in the government. Police officers arrested a man as Ugandan Youths began a March to Parliament anti-graft protest in Kampala on July 23, 2024.
