Jorginho has revealed that Mikel Arteta twice tried to sign him for Arsenal before his Deadline Day move to the Emirates, and the Italian admitted it is a weight off his shoulders to finally be working with a manager who knows him so well.
The midfielder left Chelsea on Tuesday to join Arteta's title-chasing team, and the fee will rise to £12million if Arsenal win the Premier League, the Europa League or reach the Champions League.
The pair worked together at Manchester City when Arteta was assistant manager and Jorginho was recruited from Napoli in 2018. Jorginho moved to London rivals Chelsea for a fee of £57m just six months later.
And Jorginho has now revealed that Arteta attempted to sign him for Arsenal in the summer of 2021 and again last summer. But the deal did not come to fruition until Chelsea agreed to his move across London this week.
"I don't want to go into the details, but yes, I think in the summer we talked a little bit, I think especially in January," Jorginho told DAZN.
"He called me and he said he wanted me in his team. As I said before, I am really happy to be here and now we can work together again."
